My Dear Friends,
I hope you will join us on Tuesday, January 6, 2026 at Wellfleet Harbor Actors Theater to witness a Free staged reading of Jan 6th: A Day Forever.
January 6: A Day Forever dramatizes the actual history of Donald Trump’s 2021 insurrection. Against his attempted rewriting of that history, Writers for Democratic Action (WDA) offers a forthright reckoning with the truth – a script excerpted from The Congressional Record’s starkly factual account of the day that shook America – and shakes it still.
I will be joined onstage by the wonderful actors, Dennis Cunningham, Carryl Lynn, Nathaniel Hall Taylor and Sallie Tighe. Our talk back will be moderated by James Carroll. Please join us!
The event is FREE and tickets can be reserved by clicking this link.
Here are some thoughts from Jim Carroll about why it is so important to revisit these events now:
”…I believe that returning to that grim episode is more important than ever - not because the horrors of Trump’s assaults in the past year somehow relativize what happened back then, but because those fraught hours are a perfect recapitulation of the extremity of what has unfolded - as they were the perfect forecast, which no one could know at the time. The turning point of the play we've put together is, after all, the near-prospect of the lynching of Pence, to which Trump was clearly indifferent. Lynching! My sense is that Americans did not fully take in the gravity of that near-outcome back then, and have lost any clear sense of it in the years since. By looking more directly than usual at that horror, we can re-energize resistance to what it portended. Just because Pence himself has abetted a broad denial of that ugly truth is no reason for the rest of us not to insist on reckoning with it.”
James Carroll, author, historian, journalist, and former Catholic priest will be joining us to lead the post-show discussion. Jim is one of the Co-Authors of January 6: A Day Forever and a key organizer of Writers for Democratic Action (WDA).
